Watched the new Harry Potter movie this week - in IMAX. Breaking the 7th book into two films was a brilliant idea. The book itself is really a two part story; the journey of discovery, and the confrontation. HP7 follows the book more closely than the previous films and allows for better development of the final story. Bring a handkerchief though. Part one of the story is gut wrenching and darker than anything seen in the Harry Potter series to date. At least part two should be more action than angst.
I was surprised by one development at the end of the film. Not to give anything away, but one of the main plot points is told out of order with the result, in my opinion, that a major "decision/turning point" for Harry can not be portrayed in the film. Basically, the film leads Harry down one path instead of letting him choose between two courses of action.
Overall, I have to rate the first part of "The Deathly Hallows" very highly and recommend it as a "must see". Seeing it in IMAX adds to the experience and should be done if possible.
